What is Atomic Funk Project?

Atomic Funk Project is a band of NYC musicians dedicated to throwing unforgettable dance parties and creating magical live music experiences.

Founded in 2012, AFP started off playing residencies at clubs including Cafe Wha?, The Groove, and B.B. King’s. The band earned a reputation among musicians for being the real deal, and our high-energy live shows led to invitations to play Grand Central, Fenway Park, and other prestigious venues.

Within a few years, AFP turned into a full-time passion. We've since become one of the top wedding and event bands in the country, regularly headlining our own shows at Brooklyn Bowl and sharing the stage with popular artists including Lionel Richie, Tower of Power, Nick Jonas, and Jessie J.

Is AFP a “set band”?

We are much more than a fixed group of wedding and event musicians. The people who perform with AFP have credits to their name including Broadway shows, national tours, Grammy and Tony Awards, etc. In other words, they’re real professional NYC musicians.

By making AFP the best gig in town, we maintain great relationships with performers at the highest level of the music industry. So, if they’re not doing something like touring with Hamilton or backing up a famous artist, they’re on stage with AFP!

Does AFP play “continuous music”?

The term “continuous music” is largely a marketing gimmick. The reality is, everyone takes breaks – even bands advertising “continuous music.”

We keep your guests on the dance floor for the maximum amount of time by coordinating our performance around the rest of your plans (you probably don’t want us playing during toasts or throwing a dance party during dinner).

All of our packages include a day-of production team, so we can easily respond to the natural ebb and flow of your event. This enables us to provide more dance music than with so-called "continuous music" because we don’t have to rotate breaks and fill time with background music (which tends to happen).

In short, we’ll coordinate everything to ensure that we play as much dance music as possible, your event flows smoothly, and there’s no awkward silence.

Does AFP personalize setlists?

Yes, we will personalize the setlist for your event. You can specify your favorite genres, artists, and songs, as well as your special dances, special requests, do-not-plays, and everything that’s important to you.

We will play as many of your favorites as possible while calling songs on the fly and doing what we do best – keeping your guests dancing!

Does AFP learn songs?

Yes, the band will learn 3 songs with most of our packages. If we’re providing music for your ceremony, we will learn 3 songs for that as well.

Of course, we’re happy to personalize a package to suit your specific needs.

Does AFP provide MC services?

Yes, all of our packages include a dedicated MC to make announcements according to your wishes and facilitate toasts/speeches.

Does AFP provide coordination services?

Yes, all of our packages include a day-of coordinator (who’s not on stage with the band) to work directly with your venue/planner throughout. This enables us to easily respond to the natural ebb and flow of your event and provide as much dance music as possible – without any awkward silence.

The vast majority of bands do not provide this service, so venues and planners love working with AFP due to the ease of coordinating with our team.

Does AFP provide sound equipment?

Yes, all of our packages include state-of-the-art sound equipment: wireless microphones, in-ear monitors, wireless mixing via tablet – everything for the cleanest possible stage and the ultimate in live sound.

A lot of people ask about the band’s volume, whether due to venue restrictions or concerns about guests with sensitive hearing. The bottom line is, our setup allows us to dial things in for any venue and situation.

We also offer a la carte sound systems for ceremonies, separate dinners, after-parties, etc.

Does AFP provide an audio engineer?

Yes, all of our packages include a dedicated professional audio engineer to ensure optimal sound throughout your event.

Be aware that many bands do not provide this service. Instead, someone who plays in the band brings the sound system and “sets and forgets” it.

Does AFP provide lighting?

Yes, all of our packages include wireless uplighting to create tasteful ambient color on stage without ugly lighting stands or flashing lights.

Does AFP require a stage?

No, we’re happy to set up on the floor. If you want to provide a raised platform for us, that works too!

How much space does AFP require?

We generally require 16’ W x 12’ D. If you book a large band (10+ musicians) or provide a raised platform for us, we may require up to 24’ W x 16’ D.

What size dance floor does AFP recommend?

Most rental companies estimate that 30-40% of guests will be dancing at any one time. Clearly they haven’t been to an event with AFP on stage!

We typically have 75% or more of guests dancing, so we recommend a larger dance floor than usual.

Has AFP played my venue?

We’ve been throwing epic dance parties for over a decade and have performed at many venues. If you’re getting married or hosting an event in NY, NJ, or CT, there’s a good chance we’ve played your venue.

Is AFP insured?

Yes, we’re fully insured in accordance with industry standards and will gladly provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to your venue.

What is required to book AFP?

We generally require a 25% deposit (for events booked 9-12+ months in advance). If you book the band on relatively short notice (within 6 months), we may require a deposit of 50% or more.

Does AFP offer discounts?

Yes, we discount our packages by varying amounts for Fridays/Sundays, weekdays, and off-season dates.
